Asmara was only a young teenager when the places that should have felt safest no longer did.

Home brought abuse. School brought bullying. Instead of being surrounded by the protection and encouragement every child deserves, Asmara found herself carrying more pain than any young person should have to bear.

Eventually, she made the difficult decision to leave and search for a better life.

But what she hoped would be an escape became another place of suffering. Rather than finding safety, Asmara became trapped in deeper exploitation.

Sometimes, the road away from danger is not a straight one. Sometimes, a person can leave one painful situation only to find themselves in another. For vulnerable children and young women, the promise of a better life can be used to lead them into places of even greater harm.

But that was not the end of Asmara’s story.

A Place to Heal

Through a She Is Safe Restoration Home, Asmara found something she had been missing for far too long: a safe place to begin healing.

She found people who cared about her future. She received support for her education and mental health. She was surrounded by mentors who helped her understand that her life still held value and possibility.

Restoration did not mean pretending the pain had never happened. It meant giving Asmara the time, care, support, and security necessary to face that pain and begin moving forward.

In the Restoration Home, she also began learning about love, forgiveness, and the transforming work of God.

Asmara later shared that her mentors had shown her how God had changed their lives, and how He was changing hers too.

That kind of hope is not shallow or sentimental. It is built slowly, through safe relationships, patient support, education, encouragement, and the reminder that a person’s worst experiences do not have the final word.

Restoration Means More Than Rescue

Asmara’s story reminds us that restoration is more than being removed from danger.

Safety is essential, but it is only the beginning.

True restoration creates room for a young person to heal, rediscover her worth, receive support for her future, and begin again with hope. It offers more than immediate protection. It helps rebuild the foundation for a life marked by dignity, purpose, and possibility.

That is why the work of She Is Safe matters so deeply. Through local coworkers and Restoration Homes, She Is Safe walks alongside vulnerable women and girls as they move from exploitation toward safety and healing.

The work is not finished when someone is rescued. It continues through the long process of restoration.
