Stories from the Field: Honduras — The School in the Mountains
Share
It was 2007, and our team had just crossed the border from El Salvador into Honduras. We had an appointment at a small school tucked away in the mountains, the kind of place many travelers might have passed without ever realizing what was there.
When we walked in, the teacher welcomed us warmly, and the students were already seated, watching us with anticipation. We began simply by talking with them, sharing a little about where we had come from and what life was like in the United States.
Then the conversation turned to the reason we were really there.
We shared the Gospel.
Using the EvangeCube, we walked the children through the story of sin, the cross, the resurrection, and the hope found in Jesus Christ. As I looked across the room, I remember how attentive they were. You can see it in the photograph. Their eyes were fixed on what was being shared.
And what the picture does not show is that there were even more children outside the frame.
When the invitation was given, every one of those children prayed to receive Christ.
What struck me then, and still does today, is how easily a place like that could have been overlooked. It was not a large city, a major church, or a well-known ministry event. It was simply a small school in the mountains of Honduras.
But God knew exactly where those children would be.
What looked like an ordinary appointment on a missionary schedule became a divine appointment prepared by the Lord Himself.
That day reminded me once again that no place is too small, no person is insignificant, and no Gospel opportunity should ever be taken for granted. When God opens a door, our responsibility is simply to walk through it and faithfully proclaim Jesus.
Praise His holy name.
“Let the little children come to Me, and do not forbid them; for of such is the kingdom of heaven.” — Matthew 19:14 NKJV
Have you ever experienced a moment when God led you somewhere that seemed ordinary, only to discover He had already prepared a divine appointment there? I’d love to hear your story.
